The creative options for epoxy river tables are endless. If you can dream it up, it can likely be done – including glow in the dark special effects!

This table is built from raw edge, beetle kill pine. The artist has turned devastation into something truly inspiring. Trees killed by pine beetle acquire a unique coloration with brilliant hues of blue, red, purple and brown. Repurposing this wood for art and furniture is the silver lining in the sad loss of our Western forests.

Constructed using solid wood joinery and heirloom quality craftsmanship, this table will be handed down to your children’s children.

Ianthus Speaks:

Working with reclaimed wood is where I find my zen. There’s nothing like breathing life into something that’s been discarded for dead and appreciating the subtle beauty as it’s brought back to life. With beetle kill pine, there are remarkable dark spots in the wood where the insects bored into the tree. There’s also distinctive, long trails lightly carved into the wood. It’s as though the beetles are nature’s graffiti artists.

For this table, I inlaid light colored river rock then added glow powder to the clear casting resin. The glow powder charges up in sunlight then emits a nice aqua glow when the table is in partial or complete darkness. Adding items to resin has been a trend for quite awhile now but the advances in photoluminescent powders takes river tables to a new level. The rivers actually look like they are flowing when the table is charged.
